10 Reasons to Support the Arts in Our Community

1.

2.

3.

We have helped Kinston and the region gain recognition as a tourist destination and a hub for jazz and other great music.
We are the only city east of Raleigh to have a public art plan and an impressive portfolio of 50+ art pieces permanently installed around town.
We are an economic engine for Kinston/Lenoir County, bringing a raft of art exhibits to our galleries and dazzling performers to other businesses and civic locations.

4.

5.

6.

We are the pre-eminent Arts Academy in the area--hosting private music teachers, classes in pottery, painting, performing arts, and more for students of all ages in our downtown arts and community center.
We are the anchor for the 8 County Eastern North Carolina African American Music Trail⎯a statewide project of the North Carolina Arts Council that began in Kinston.
We bring our programs into area schools and after school programs through week-long artist residencies, after school mentorship programs, and hands-on arts for gang prevention programs.

8.

9.

7.

We are home to one of the finest art facilities in the East and one of the first places to be visited by business owners and manufacturers looking to relocate in the region. A strong arts presence matters to newcomers!
We have received significant support to create arts programming from grants, foundations, and private donations⎯funds that go directly into the sustainability and enhancement of our community.
We are the Regional Arts Partner to Jones and Duplin counties, helping to create a broader cultural menu for the whole Neuse Region.

10.

And we do it all with only 10% of our support coming from state and
local government sources.
