"Peace, Love and Respect for Everybody" in Lenoir County! Chuck Davis Dance Company

The Community Council for the Arts welcomes the Chuck Davis Dance Company to Lenoir County for a week long residency. This highly acclaimed group from New York City will work with youth and community members in Lenoir County April 20- 26, sharing their expertise and love of traditional African dance.

Dr. Charles (Chuck) Davis established the Chuck Davis Dance Company in 1968. His dancers are now one of the nation's premier Afro-American dance companies! The North Carolina native is considered to be one of the foremost and accomplished choreographers and teachers in traditional African dance. Their motto: "Peace, love and respect for everybody" reflects this group's desire to preserve and share the joy they bring to the stage.

You will have the opportunity to meet these phenomenal artists Sunday, April 20 from 6-8pm at a public "Meet the Artist" reception at the Arts Center in Kinston. Dr. Davis will offer a free 5 day class during the evenings (4/21- 4/25). No prior dance experience or special equipment necessary and there is no age limit. Participants from the dance class will have the honor of performing with the Chuck Davis Dance Company at the community performance on Saturday, April 26 at the Grainger Hill Performing Arts Center.
