Classes & Workshops - Winter 2010

Pre-registration is required for workshops and classes unless otherwise noted. Please call the Arts Center to secure your place in any of the following. There are limits on class and workshop sizes in most cases, so please register early.

Punch cards for attendance are available for $20.00 at the Community Council for the Arts, 400 N. Queen St., Kinston, NC 28501. Each regularly scheduled workshop will cost one punch, which covers one parent and one child. Cards can also be used to attend special holiday workshops that will cost two punches. The punch cards allow you to
bring your child when it works for you, for the activities that you both like!

Valentine’s Craft Workshop

Children's Classes

Kindermusik: Village
Age Range: newborn to 18 months
Class Structure: 16 classes in a semester with two different, eight week themes
Class Length: 45 minute class each week

Class cost includes one set of At Home Materials including a CD of music from class, literature board book, age-appropriate instrument, and a set of art banners

Class times 9:30 am and 4:30 pm Cost $99

Kindermusik: Our Time
Age Range: 1.5 to 3 years
Class Structure: 15 classes in a semester
Class Length: 45 minute class each week

For the toddler, every day brings new discoveries and opportunities to explore the world. Despite a display of independence, the 1.5 to 3 year old child still longs for the safety and security of parental closeness. During this time, toddlers still relishes the comfort of the familiar while also seeking the challenge of something new.

Class cost includes one set of Home Materials including Family Activity Guide, two literature books, instrument, and two CDs of music from class

Class Times: 10:30 am and 2:00 pm
Begins Thursday, January 28th
Cost: $165

Kindermusik: Imagine That!
Age Range: 3 to 5 years
Class Structure: 15 classes in a semester
Class Length: 45 minute class each week
Parent Involvement: Last 10-15 minutes of class

His blanket becomes a superhero’s cape. A cardboard box doubles as her princess castle. Pots and pans become a drum set. And she sings all the time. Sound like someone you know? Every day brings a new discovery for the preschooler—slowly opening the doors of individuality and independence.
Class cost includes one set of At Home Materials—40-page activity book, two literature books, play set or game, instrument, and two CDs of music from class

Class Time 11:30 am and 1:00 pm

Pottery for Kids

Ruth Cox Painting Workshop

Ruth Cox Painting Workshop March 3rd - 5th, 2010, 9:00am - 4:00pm

Ruth Cox is an artist and muralist and is a native of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She received her B.A. degree in Art Education from the University of South Carolina and began painting full‐time in 1994 after her two sons were grown. Since that time she has worked as Artist and Muralist, enjoys painting plein air, pet portraits and teaching drawing and painting to beginners and more accomplished artists.

She is a member of several arts organizations including the International Plein Air Painters and is a signature member of the international art website WetCanvas.com, where she has published instructional articles and demonstrations and is a frequent contributor to the Plein Air and Decorative Arts Forums. In 2004 she won second place in the Wilmington, NC Azalea Festival Show and a purchase award in an art show at Leu Gardens, Orlando Fla.

Her workshop will be offered in oils and acrylics over three days at The Arts Center. Participants may be at any level of their craft. All registrants will receive a supply list with confirmation of their registration. This list can also be found online.
