This class is for all skill levels! Raku is a pottery technique which primarily revolves around it’s firing process. Raku was developed in 16th century Japan, but has been popular in the U.S. since the mid-1950s. Raku firing differs from traditional kiln firing in that it is done outside in a fairly short cycle and the wares are removed while hot and treated to a post-firing reduction phase. This phase causes a unique coloring and surface to the work, usually metallic and crackled with black unglazed clay.
