Promoting the Arts:  Summer Camps

                We look forward to seeing you for our Summer Camps 2019!
               
Here is some general information about our summer camps.

  • All instructors are professional artists and/or educators.
  • Registration fee is non-refundable and is applied to full cost due by the first day of each camp session.
  • Campers should dress comfortably in play clothes. Summer camp t-shirts are available for $15 each (tax included).
  • Campers participating in a full day of camp may stay at the Arts Center during the interval between camps. Bottled water and a fruit snack will be provided, with campers encouraged to bring their own lunches each day.
  • Register Early! All camps have registration limits and fill up quickly.
  • PayPal payments will be available following the links provided. We also will accept  cash, check, Visa, and MasterCard payments.
  • Scholarships are available for kids in need. Contact the Arts Center -- 252-527-2517 -- for more information.
  • If you are a teenager (16-years or older) and would like to volunteer, contact us for an application -- 252-527-2517 -- or download the application form (read below section, Volunteer Program).
  • A completed registration form must be completed for each student participating.

        or make your camp selections and pay online (with each class as indicated below).
  • A minimum non-refundable deposit (per class) must also be submitted to secure camp registration.

This concert is free and open to the public.
Jazz Band Camp
 5-day Camp: June 3-June 7, 2019
  • Session 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Instructor: Charles Richberg
  • Ages: Rising 6th to 12th Graders
  • Cost per Session: $25 per person
  • Pre-Registration Fee: $10 non-refundable registration applied to total fee to reserve space
  • Performance Free and Open to Public June 7, 2019, 11:00 a.m.
  • Camp is for students who have a working knowledge of their instrument and is an opportunity for campers to participate with other band students from across the region. Students must bring their instruments each day.
Kids at Play with Art — Mixed Media
Session 1 — Four-day Camp: June 3-June 6, 2019
  • 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  •  Instructor: Christi Fillipelli
  • Ages 5 to 7 years
  • Cost per Session: $55 Members/ $65 Non-Members
Session 2 — Three-day Camp: July 9-July 11, 2019
  • 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  •  Instructor: Kristen Mckinley
  • Ages 3 & 4 years
  • Cost per Session: $45 Members/ $55 Non-Members
Session 3 — Five-day Camp: July 15-19, 2019
  • 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  •  Instructor: Simone Johnson
  • Ages 7 & 8 years
  • Cost per Session: $65 Members/ $75 Non-Members

  • Pre-Registration Fee: $25 non-refundable registration per session applied to total fee to reserve space
  • During this camp, campers will experience a variety of age-specific art and craft activities using a range of materials and concepts. Select artwork will be on display for the reception in August. Snack will be provided.

Kids Who Paint — Mural Painting
Three-day Camp: June 10-12, 2019
  • 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Instructor: Maximillian Mozingo
  • Ages: 9 to 15 years
  • Cost : $45 Members/ $55 Non-Members
  • Pre-Registration Fee: $25 non-refundable registration applied to total fee to reserve space​
  • Campers will learn mural painting techniques while painting and completing a mural on the wall of the Arts Center basement. Mural will be available for display at the reception in August.  Snack will be provided.
Kids with Clay Pottery
Session 1 — Five-day Camp: June 10-June 14, 2019
  • 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Instructor: Jacob Herrmann
  • Ages: 5 to 8 years
Session 2 — Five-day Camp: July 8-July 12, 2019
  • 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Instructor: Jacob Herrmann
  • Ages: 9 to 12 years

  • Cost per Session: $80 Members/ $90 Non-Members
  • Pre-Registration Fee: $25 non-refundable registration applied to total fee to reserve space
  • Maximum number of students is 12.
  • Campers will experience hand-building and be exposed to the pottery wheel. All artwork will be on display for the camp reception in August. Snack will be provided.

Kids Who Paint — Still Life Painting
Five-day Camp: June 17-21, 2019
  • 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Instructor: Jamil Burton
  • Ages: 9 to 13 years
  • Cost : $65 Members/ $75 Non-Members
  • Pre-Registration Fee: $25 non-refundable registration applied to total fee to reserve space​
  • Campers will learn to paint on an easel while replicating inanimate subjects staged by the instructor. Campers will be encouraged to interpret the subjects and paint them as they individually see them. Artwork will be on display for the reception in August. Snack will be
    provided.
Kids At Play — Textile Art
Session 1 -- Five-day Camp: June 24-28, 2019
  • 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Instructor: Simone Johnson
  • Ages: 7 to 10 years
Session 2 -- Five-day Camp: July 22-26, 2019
  • 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Instructor: Simone Johnson
  • Ages: 11 to 15 years

  • Cost per Session: $65 Members/ $75 Non-Members

  • Maximum number of students each session is 10.
  • Campers will become most familiar with a variety of textile materials. They will be exposed to a mixture of classic and contemporary textile arts, and use what they learn to complete individual projects. Artwork will be on display for the reception in August. Snack will be
    provided.
Kids Who Paint — Illustration Painting
Five-day Camp: July 15-19, 2019
  • 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Instructor: Jamil Burton
  • Ages: 9 to 13 years
  • Cost: $65 Members/ $75 Non-Members
  • Pre-Registration Fee: $25 non-refundable registration applied to total fee to reserve space​
  • Campers will learn to interpret a short story and illustrate the story as they see appropriate. Campers will learn applicable painting techniques and complete and bind their very own book by the end of camp. Artwork will be on display at the Reception in August. Snack will be provided.
Kids with Cameras
Four-day Camp: July 22-25, 2019
  • 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Instructor: Lindsay Corrigan
  • Ages: 8 to 12 years
  • Cost: $55 Members/ $65 Non-Members
  • Pre-Registration Fee: $25 non-refundable registration applied to total fee to reserve space​
  • Maximum number of students is 8.
  • Campers will learn the basics of photographic composition as they take photos of animate and inanimate subjects around town and in the Arts Center. Campers will meet each morning at the Arts Center and will be supervised when they are off-site taking photos. Camp registration fee includes the use of a digital camera for the week and photo developing fees. Photos taken by campers will be on display at the reception in August. Snack will be provided.
Kids in Theatre
Five-day Camp: July 29-August 2, 2019
  • 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Instructor: Taylor Chew
  • Ages: 5 to 15
  • Cost per Session: $125
  • Pre-Registration Fee: $50 non-refundable registration applied to total fee to reserve spaces
  • Maximum number of students is 30.
  • Campers will get a hands-on experience involving all required complete a full theatrical production. On Friday, there will be performance for the campers to show off what they have learned. This is an all day camp, so each student will need to bring a lunch. An afternoon snack will be provided.

There will be a performance August 2, 2019,
​at the Arts Center.

This performance is free and open to the public.
Kids at Play with Strings — Fiber Art
Four-day Camp: August 5-August 8, 2019
  • 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Instructor: Maggie Harper
  • Ages: 7 to 10 years
  • Cost : $55 Members/ $65 Non-Members
  • Pre-Registration Fee: $25 non-refundable registration applied to total fee to reserve space
  • Campers will be exposed to different fibers and learn different ways to use them as they complete various projects. Artwork will be on display for the reception in August. Snack will be provided.

Additional Information
  • A completed registration form must be provided with payment. Pre-registration payments may be accepted over the phone as long as a registration form is submitted in person, by mail, or by email within 24 hours of payment.
  • The name of every person allowed to pick up your child must be given to Staff upon check-in. Photo identification may be required to pick up a child.
  • Every effort will be made to accommodate children with food allergies. Parents must notify staff of food allergies upon check-in. Parents of children with severe allergies are strongly encouraged to provide their own snacks.
  • We may use images from Summer Camp in our marketing and promotional material. 
  • Summer camp t-shirts are available for $15 each in the following sizes (youth small, youth medium, youth large, small, medium and large).

A reception for Summer Camp Participants will be held TBA, 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. We hope to see all of this year’s campers, their families and friends. This reception is provided through support by

Volunteer Program
The Community Council for the Arts is a non-profit, 501-(c)3 organization. We are happy to encourage responsible and dedicated youth, ages 16 and older, to assist with our summer camps.

During Summer Camp, volunteers assist Staff with a variety of duties including the daily set up and clean up of camps. For those volunteers seeking service hours for school or civic organizations, participants will receive an official letter validating service hours contributed.

To participate, students must complete an application and meet with Director Sandy Landis prior to the their week of service. Participation in this program is free. Scheduling preference is on a first-come, first-serve basis. As a benefit of membership, scheduling priority will be offered to members of Community Council for the Arts.
